9800GT Question

I'm upgrading from 7900GS to a 9800GT, but newegg just ran out of the one I was going to get. Link below.

But I saw pretty much the same thing, but says Hybrid Power. Link below.

What does Hybrid power mean, and is this worth the $20 dollar upgrade, or should I wait till the regular 9800gt?

Also, would this 9800GTX be worth around $40 dollars more? I heard it is very PSU reliable, and I have a Antec 500W PSU, would that be enough? Link below.

I've got 9800 GT, its just 0k. Gunna use the step-up program in a week or 2.
Looking at the GTX+ or the GTX+ super clocked. Don't know about the Hybrid.

If you get one don't get a superclocked because, I don't think you can step-up if you go that route.

the $20 more expensive Hybrid power version is based on a 55nm die isntead of a 65nm. this allows higher ocing/lower heat/less power. thing is it costs them less to make it on a 55nm die so you're kinda getting ripped until all the 65's are gone...

basically (and i have talked with nvidia), the first 9800GT's were rebadged 8800GT's until nvidia could build them on the 55nm process. this is yet another classic example of stupid nvidia naming confusiness. They should have waited for 55nm before making the 9800GT's ><

in my opinion, if you're overclocking it (which you should be!), its worth another $20. however, what is the current prices of 4850's? that could be interesting...

one last thing, what resolution and games are you playing? on anything 19" or smaller, 9800GT is overkill (unless you're crysising on vista..)

Yea, trying to get tech/specs on some of that stuff isn't easy.

I was told in forum X that the + on like the GTX+ ment that it was 55nm ? Couldn't find any mention of them being hybrid though.

I see the next Gen has 1x6 PCI-e on the GTX models instead or two. Yet it doesn't say anthing about Hybrid either and only has a slight drop in amp recomendations.

yep. the + on the gtX meant 55nm, but nvidia declined to put a + on the 9800GT, which would have been admitting its just a rebadged 8800GT.
