Hi there,

I am building a new PC but dunno how to choose between the video card

my mobo is Gigabyte P35-DS4, so there are 2 PCI-E 2.0 for crossfire, not Sli tho

9800GTX 300$

3870 in Crossfire 280$ (After MIR with combo discount)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102719

I did alot of goggle-ing, can't find a straight answer, but
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rd,1923-5.html
said that "Performance is also comparable to a pair of 9600 GTs in SL" then "Two 9600 GT cards in an SLI configuration will offer performance similar to that of a dual-GPU 9800 GX2, for a bit more than half the price."

If that is true, it would be the best bang for the bucks for crossfire! but the Evga has the step-up program, when 9900gtx comes out, the 9800gtx will drops like hot cake i predict, then can switch to a new card by the time it comes out.

As of right now, please tell me what you think, and what would you choose?

THANKS!

Personally i'd wait till the new series of ATI/Nvidia cards come out. They're expected to be out within the next month or two.

Even if they aren't worth the price, the older stuff will become more affordable.

thx, I am 90% sure that I want the 9800GTX now! but what about 8800GTS G92? i heard you can get the same performance if you over clock it?

Pretty much. I would personally just get an eVGA 8800GTS and step-up in the summer to either the new cards, or a lower price on the 9800GTX/9800GX2.

That's the advice I'd give, though if he has to have a card now, he might want to look at ASUS' overclocked 3850x2:

It's neck and neck with the 9800gtx.

I'm quite sure the performance of the 4850 with GDDR3 due out mid June will be similar, without issues in games that do not support Crossfire. So, that would be the reason to wait.

At any rate, I wouldn't recommend two 3850's or 3870's right now, as just getting one and then going CrossfireX later with a dual GPU card is a better solution. For anyone with a single PCIe x16 board, I'd definitely recommend waiting for the 4xxx series.
