Hey hey all

I just built a friend a new computer.
Everything is working great, except for some drivers for his new Sapphire 9800se. I can't install the latest CAT drivers. I keep getting an "INF Display driver not found" error. The drivers that came with the CD install fine... But they aren't the most up-to-date. However in the display properties under Adapter, it reads the Chip type as a 9500 TX(im pretty sure it shouldnt be a9500). But everywhere else it reads as a 9800se, as it should.
So any ideas how I can get Cat 3.6 to install on his system?
His system:
Mobo: Gigabyte 7N400-L1
CPU: 2500+
HD: WD 80gb 8mb buffer
Ram: x2 256mb XMS DDR333
OS: XP Home Full (SP1 / every update)

Hello peeps! I'm the friend, I searched the net today and I found an ati page that talks about this problem here http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/3659.html

I tried the first option but the drivers where older then what I have and still give the same error. Oh also it is not a Sapphire it is a PowerColor card. The card is running fine however I would like to get the latest cat drivers to install.

Cheers,

Izual

I have exactly the same problem with my Power Colour 9800Se,same error exactly.
Any experts out there that can point us in the right direction, is it a problem with the new drivers not supporting the SE, it shouldnt be seeing it is just a broken 9800pro.

Just noticed that we have the same m/board except mine is a pro, maybe there is a conflict between the board and the drivers?

Hey guys!Where do u get it?It`s limited in China. But i know how to get through it(and you can also if you know some chinese:)).First ,use the drivers with the 9800se,but always too old.Else, you can install the OMEGA drivers for ATI cards--that`s the best solution.Anything else to be asked?I`d like to talk.

Got the answer to our problems from a guy on another forum, go to the Sapphire website and download the drivers from there, they install no fuss.

I think I have an explanation, but you might not like it.

OK you might not be too surprised to see a 9800 Pro show up in device manager as a 9700 Pro, if the driver wasn't written after the release of the 9800 Pro, since they use the same components, right?

Well, look at the old Saphire 9500 Non-Pro 128MB card. It has a 9700 chip with 4 pipelines removed. It also has a 256-bit bus, unlike the other 9500 cards. In other words, it's electronically identicle to your 9800SE! There should eventually be a driver update for that.

Like I told the original poster, it has the same connections as the early 9500 Non-Pro 128MB card. 4 pipelines, 256-bit bus. The only differences are card BIOS and clock speed. If the driver doesn't recognise the newer card BIOS, it should see the card as an overclocked 9500 Non-Pro 128MB 256-bit card, as that's basically what it is.

They are just normal ATI Cats, but they work for some reason where the others dont, maybe the Cats have been altered for the manufacturers of the Se's.
