Yesterday my computer had no signal going to the monitor. This was in the evening, the computer had been on all day and seemingly had no issues. I checked all usual suspects, loose cable, making sure things are plugged in. All looked fine.

I shut down the PC with the power button and started it back up, same thing no signal. Everyting would turn on however, the fans, hard drives, everything looked like it was working. However this time I noticed my USB keyboard and mouse had no power as well. So I went to searching online for possible causes and solutions. I tried different things but nothing worked.

One thing I tried was hooking up the monitor to the onboard video but I got no signal again. I decided to remove the 980, and still hook up the video to the onboard video. This got results and the computer turned on fine like nothing was wrong. I currently have an old Radeon 5750 in it now and its working just fine no issues so far.

So could the 980 be dead causing all the issues? I also considered the PSU not getting enough power to the system with the 980 installed causing the issues. I know the 5750 doesn't draw nearly as much power as the 980. I unfortunately don't have another PSU or another computer really to test the 980 in.

What would be the best course of action? Maybe take the 980 to a local PC shop (I live in a rural area I may not find a shop with a PSU to actually test the 980 since it requires 2 eight pins AND a six pin)? Maybe bight the bullet and see if its the PSU and buy another one and try that? Or is a call to EVGA the best course?

Any opinions and advice are welcomed. Oh, and if I don't respond right away I work 12hr shifts the next two days so sorry in advance.

I would try putting that card into a different PC. (perhaps a friends) and if you have to try your PSU again. If it still fails then it is certianly the PSU or card. That PSU is pretty good though, I doubt it is the problem. Try contacting EVGA, their customer service has always been great for me, and that is a top of the line card, so its warranty should be pretty great.

Sorry for the hiatus. I'm 99% sure its the PSU. After some troubleshooting at home I have the 980 in and the PC is running. The only thing I changed was where the cables plugged in on the PSU itself. I'm not exactly sure why that would make a difference? I think i'll head out later today and pick up a new PSU for peace of mind though, and contact Seasonic about a replacement since its still under warranty.

Well it was running. Booted into Windows once. I shut it down and turned it back on and it's back to where it started.
