980Ti is using all of its memory clock since installation of new monitor! Help?

Hey guys, so I bought a Dell S2716DG (2560x1440 144hz G-sync) and i hooked it up as well as my previous 2 monitors (1920x1080 60hz and 1366x768 60hz) but I noticed that from the moment I installed it, in GPU-Z the memory clock is on max all the time even at idle. The GPU load is 0% but memory clock at 100% (1752mhz). Before the new monitor, my clocks where like 100-300mhz at idle. What causes that huge bump?

You noticed that your idle core clock and temps have increased too?

Try dropping to 120hz in the control panel and see what happens.

Its a well known and documented problem with Nvidia GPUs - if you run a multimonitor set up with high refresh rates, your GPU will refuse to properly downclock. Two things stop it from happening; either run at a lower refresh rate normally, then turn it up for gaming or only run a single monitor.

Yea, temps went from 25oC to 43-46. I really really don't want to uninstall my other monitors, it is an awesome experience :(. I'm gonna try with refresh rates, hopefully something will be done. Stay tuned!

I would also like to ask, If i leave it as it is, will the constant 100% memory clock damage my GPU in the long run?

Yeah it sucks; I mean theres nothing wrong with making your GPU work a little harder at idle (chances are you'll have upgraded it before it shows any sign of wear as a result), but its annoying to have your system temps increased because of it - especially if your fan noise increases.

I recently went from a single 1080p 60hz monitor to a 165hz 1440p monitor with 2x 1080p 60hz monitors on each side of it, and noticed the same thing. It only went back to downclocking properly if I set the refresh rate on my main monitor to 120hz or lower, or only used it on its own.

*To answer your latest question; as I mentioned above, it will wear your card down over time if you are a long hour user, but you'll most likely have upgraded your card before it has any actual effect.

Im using my monitor at 165hz and it does it then too, but it doesnt if its any value below 120 - such as 80.

Hey guys, I'm glad I brought this to other people's attention as well! It's always good to know. So I tried all the refresh changes available and those damn clocks wouldn't go down.. So I had to sacrifice my 1366x768 19'' display and stay with two monitors (my 1080p and the new one). It's a small sacrifice but at least I was able to bring my GPU back to it's senses! Loving this 133mhz core clock and 200mhz memory clock with only 30oC temps!

My right side hurts a little bit, but it's better than stressing a 810 euro Hall of Fame GPU for nor reason right? :)

May I ask tho, is it okay to leave the DVI cable plugged into the GPU and it's power cables plugged into the outlet but without a monitor? I don't wanna go through the hussle of uninstalling those cables as I also may need to connect that monitor back in the future!
