I just installed my shiny new MSI 980ti GPU into my system. I still only have a 1080p monitor but this will be getting replaced soon. The rest of my specs are haswell i5 @ 4.0, 8gb ddr3 ram 1600mhz and thats about it.

I use Nvidia Geforce Experience to tune my games automatically for me and was very surprised indeed to see that the program upscaled my free version of Metal Gear Solid 5 to 2k (i think it was 2k) using their new DSR - Dynamic Super Resolution.

I normally only game on 1080p, so the difference this setting gave me almost blew my socks off!! It is simply stunning!

Is this a true reflection of what 2k gaming looks like??? as its unreal, and also...if so, i cannot imagine what 4k will look like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BRING IT ON!!! - Im blown away!

It isn't a true reflection, because you are still only seeing 1080p images. But it is better than normal 1080p rendering and textures will be more sharp and lifelike.

While no doubt 4k will be awesome, I think currently 1440p hits the sweet spot for the 980Tis as you also want smooth framerates. With 1440p you get quite a few 100+ Hz monitors which give you an amazing gaming experience.
1440p also gives you an extra 78% pixels of detail.
I recon that should be your next upgrade instead of eyeing 4k, which currently can only do 60Hz and will not be very fast on a 980ti

Hope this helps,
Gabor

I'm not sure it's *entirely* accurate as you're still viewing it on a 1080p monitor (I'm doing the same by the way) - but it does seem to provide sharper textures and a smoother image (less antialiasing issues) - I really like it as a technology.

Try it on GTA V too, it looks fantastic. Welcome to the 980Ti club, by the way :)
