Let's say I wanted max performance at 1080p for now, but I wanted to SLI/Crossfire one of these cards in 2-4 years for 4K. Which card should I buy?

Solution
I dont know if all 295x cards are this way but my Sapphire 295x2 only has a dvi and 4 miniports, no hdmi 2.0 port! Go figure!! If youre like me and go to an actual 4k tv for a monitor you wont have the luxury of using the 4k 60hz hdmi port, youll be forced to use the 30hz port until someone is brave enough to make one an adapter.

If you simply think you need a card of that calibre I suggest the 980ti for that reason alone.

My advice is like spentshells, go with a 970 and enjoy 1080p for the next 3-4 years until your actually ready to go 4k.

Would you actually use a 3-4 year old video card to game 1080p now? The answer is NO. It wouldnt be a good experience and it will be the same scenario to be forced to use a 980ti or 295x2...
I have to agree completely, with one exception. For 1080P now get a 970 and enjoy! When you say in 2-4 years Ill go to 4K, you will need a better card than can be had by matching two 970's together. Let's say you go with the 980 ti
in 4 years are there going to be any kicking around for sale? Pascal is coming out next year for Nvidia 2 years after that something even better.

Grab a 970 now for 1080P and sit on your 400 dollars for 3 years and get something new then.
