980ti Price drop on 1080 release?

I currently have an MSI 980ti, and am quite convinced to buy the 1080 one launch day (if I can manage to get one). Looking around the internet, I think I would sell mine for $450 just to get it off my hands quickly. They seem to go for anywhere from $600 down to $500 (with a few out liars). But that is at the current market. Do you think the price will drop significantly with the release of the 1080, since it is so much more powerful than the titan x? Thanks so much!

no one knows. in the past current models did not plummet on price when new ones came along. they may drop a small bit but they are not going to be $300 cards all of a sudden. the used market will see drops in value since they will be old tech but they will still hold value for a good amount.

Well that makes me feel much better. I think it will be interesting to see what happens when the 1070 is released, I think it could change the gpu market since it will be more powerful and cheaper than a used 980ti.

i'm guessing by the end of the year. the 980 ti came out a long time after the 980 and after the titan x as well. but end of the year is the current guess by those that guess for a living :)

but as soon as anything is released, it will be posted to the megathread. that's the best i can offer. bunch of us watching the rumor mill and official sources for any and all juicy tidbits we can get our hands on. i don't work for anyone in the tech world so have no inside access, but i can catalog the rumors for us to drool over 😀

Haha awesome, I waited so long to get the 980 ti over the 980 and then this, a revolution in gpus. I'm sure nivida was giggling thinking of all of the 980 ti owners when they released the cards.
