hi , so i already have 1 980ti , but obviously this cannot run 4k 60 fps , it would be much much cheaper to get another 980ti , rather than wait for a 1080ti , but will 2 980ti with some overlocking be able to handle 4k?

i could get a 980ti for about £250-300 and would need to upgrade my psu which would be about £350 in total once ive sold my current psu

compared to the £500 id have to pay after selling my 980ti to get a 1080ti

so is 980ti with the sli issues and what not be enough for 4k 60fps (i only play triple A games)

At this point, purchase of a Maxwell card (any) for the purpose of SLI is not advisable, especially at 250-300 quid... This is coming from a GTX 980 Ti 2-way SLI owner. With the GTX 1080 Ti and AMD...
Depending on the games that you play a single GTX 1080 or 1080ti wil be drastically better than 980ti's in SLI in terms of performance. Many games do not use the second graphics card so if the games you want to play do then go ahead and get another 980ti otherwise I suggest you go for a single card.

well i play mainly triple A games , pretty much all of them support sli , so in terms of 4k perfomance , would the 980ti be be adequate foi 4k 60fps as it has much better performance to cost ratio

At this point, purchase of a Maxwell card (any) for the purpose of SLI is not advisable, especially at 250-300 quid... This is coming from a GTX 980 Ti 2-way SLI owner. With the GTX 1080 Ti and AMD Vega(s) about to release, they themselves should prove potent cards at any rez.

But more importantly, with their introduction, price drops should be seen with the current line of Pascal cards especially the GTX 1080; better money spent with the sale of your current 980 Ti, to bolster your buying power which ever way you go.

Plus, depending on your current PSU (age, wattage, etc.) you could still keep it in use, avoiding a further cost by going to a single, more efficient GPU.

Like redgarl stated, patience right now is the best call IMO... But, to answer your question, A 2-way GTX 980 Ti SLI should run your AAA games on 4K @60 FPS. However, newer titles will test them.
