Hello

I am going to purchase either a Z35 or x34 monitor.

I currently have 980ti hybrid.

If I went with the 4K monitor will dual 980ti's hold up?
If I went 2k 144hz would they manage?

Next would be the same scenario but with a 1080. (Maybe 2)

Will be purchasing the monitor and card/cards Thursday or Friday so you will influence my choices.

Will be used with i7 5820k @4.5mhz
Corsair vengeance 32gb 3200mhz

Your opinions would be much appreciated.

To note I have my heart set on 4K but I also love my frames :)

Aye, I'm currently studying to become a tactical strength and conditioning specialist :)

Anywho, you can run a 4k monitor at 2k, but there'll be some fuzziness. The x34 Predator isn't 4k, though. It's 3440x1440, which is a 21:9 aspect ratio. 4k is 3840x2160 (16:9). 3440x1440 sits between 2k and 4k in terms of pixel count.

Regardless, the x34 Predator is an amazing monitor. I'd kill to have one of those. Get it if you can. SLI'd 980ti's, a single 1080, or SLI'd...

If you are planning on playing newer AAA titles you will want a 1080 or 1080 sli. 1 1080 will get you 60+fps in most game @ 4k however you will have to turn some eye candy off. 1080SLI will get you 60+fps plus allow you to keep the eye candy.

The only down side right now is that there are some common issues with 1080 sli right now such as stuttering, poor performance, and low gpu usage. I have experienced the problems myself and there doesn't seem to be a fix at the moment. So while 1080SLI technically is the best solution (besides titan x sli), it can be frustrating. To my knowledge this is a pascal issue though, the 980ti sli config isn't included in this.

2 980 tis/1 1080 would hold up at 2k/144hz.

If you have the money, go for 1080 SLI, no doubt. The only gripe I have with SLI 980ti's is the amount of power those things draw. You'll need a massive PSU to power them (1000W at least), and your electrical bill will be sky high. You could power 2 1080s on a good 800W PSU, and 1080 beats the 980ti indisputably. So yeah, if you're willing to fork the necessary dough, get 2 1080s. Boy howdy, GTX 1080 SLI + 5820k @ 4k will be one hell of a setup.

But as for the 2k 144Hz: a single 980ti will manhandle 2k 144Hz. I use a 980ti and a PQ278Q, and it's the best setup I could possibly ask for. Overall, I think 2k 144Hz on a single 980ti is the best option for your scenario. It'll cost way less and is still, overall, an amazing gaming setup.

Not sure how to quote 😛

I have 1000 modular PSU atm and as I'm in the Armed forces you guys pay for my electric :)

The x34 monitor looks so pretty though (4k) can I run it at 2k?

I am in such I dilemma atm!!

Does 2k still look better for say BF1

PG348Q is also 3440x1440, just like the x34 Predator. Z35 is just a cheaper version of the PG348Q/x34, at a resolution of 2560x1080.
