99% CPU Usage

This high CPU usage problem is driving me insane on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The problem just started. In Taskmanager there are a million instances of javaws.exe*32 running and more and more

It probably is some sort of java based malware. Run some anti-virusscans and/or malware scan such as malwarebytes or hijackthis. After downloading, installing and updating these programs empty your temporary (internet) files and run a full scan.

And you can safely uninstall java from your computer, unless you actually need it for something.

Thanks, bootcher. Interesting. Two days ago I ran Malware bytes but I am running it again right now. Prior to getting your post, I uninstalled two copies of Java that were on my computer. In IE it said it was working properly but it said it was not configured properly in Firefox which is what I use. I'll have to see how much I really need it. I know my brokerage website seems to require it. After the uninstalls I no longer saw all those javaws.exe*32 files in Taskmanager and my computer cooled down and stopped using the resources. In fact, not one of those files was showing. I then also ran a complete scan with my AV which is F-Prot. I also ran CC Cleaner and Glary Utilities. I also used %temp% to get into the remaining temp files and manually deleted all but 4 that would not delete. One of the files I deleted had a Java icon. I also scanned again just now with malware bYtes. I have down;loaded Hijack this and am about to run it. I will get back to you when all is done. Thanks again.

OK after all the cleaning and everything I re-installed Java for Firefox because I found that I do need it for an important website. Previously when checking the Firefox Java installation it would never confirm that it was installed properly. This time, I carefully went through all the steps and it worked fine. The file that was going crazy with a thousand copies of itself was javaw,exe*32. I confirmed that my Firefox, as well as my windows 7 is 64 bit. I bet that was the problem. Thanks again for your help. My Thinkpad is running nice and cool now and using very little CPU but interestingly more RAM ie 3.69GB when idle
