My pride and joy first build has hit on hard times and I am trying to salvage what's still usable to make a budget gaming PC for my son.

new
CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($117.97 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M LX PLUS Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($40.79 @ Newegg)
Memory: Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg)

Already have
GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 470 Super Overclock
HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint 1TB
PSU: Antec TruePower TP-750
Case: Antec Nine Hundred Two
OS: Windows 7 Enterprise x64

Will the above be a new happy family? I'm open to other suggestions as well (perhaps a Xenon CPU?) . Note, I Won't be overclocking!

Can I repurpose my Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 998679, or do I need the new RAM above?

Thanks!

You can re-use the old memory but your new system is not triple channel. It would only run in single channel with 6GB of memory installed. You could get dual-channel with 4GB install though.

The graphics card is pretty old but will last for some current games. Not many though.

OK, so I realized I had a micro ATX mobo, so I replaced that. I also decided to get a i3-4150 since I will be going to Microcenter anyway. How does this look combined with my components from above? Any problems or weaknesses?
