9950 overclocking?

I have modestly overclocked my Intel q9950 2.83 to 3.4 with no problems (water cooled) temps at 30 - 35 idle. When I jump to 4.0 the temps Idle at 40 - 45 but I get blue screened right after boot. Is it my mother board crapping out (EVGA 680 i)? Or is there something else to consider?

4.0 is pretty high for that processor. Its either that the settings aren't right, like too high of voltage, or that your motherboard cant handle it. Try to find a happy medium like 3.6-3.7, unless you are going for an overclocking record, then get the asus rampage and some liquid nitrogen 😀

I used to have the Q9550 Overclocked to 4.1GHZ, you just need to keep playing around with it.

I had the evga 790i ultra sli motherboard but keep trying, good temps by the way.
