A 2.0 Pci slot Motherboard

I want to replace my current mobo for breaking and was wondering if a mobo with a 2.0 pci slot would be compatible with a 2.1 gpu. Are there any major drawbacks if so?

Yes, PCI-E is fully backwards and forwards compatible between versions, you can use any PCI-E card in any PCI-E 16x slot, it doesnt matter if the card or slot is 1.x or 2.x.
