Question a 2009 HP e9280

I used to use both a tower (HP e9280) and a laptop, but some years back I stopped using the HP and started using a laptop for everything.
I'm now looking to get a new laptop but am unable to find one that is portable (14", discrete graphics, 1TB storage and under $1,500)
So, I'm wondering if I should upgrade my e9280?
2 issues I wonder about:

1. Is it possible at all and if possible, too costly?
2. what workflow should I use to keep from having to copy files back/forth between tower/laptop?

yep...
this inspiron can't be upgraded to 1TB, which I need.

the frame is still perfectly useable. I know I'd need a new cpu card, a new graphics card, an SSD drive, probably a new wifi card - but I'd like to price that out.

the elite e9280t is so old, can't even find any spec for it.

uncomfortable with AMD processors. How does the CPU and GPU in this ASUS compare with Intel and NVIDIA chips?

when I follow the link, in the filters, only i7 is checked....but most of the results aren't i7.
I also want discreet graphics board
