A 450 watt psu for a hd 5850

Hello i'm building a pc out off parts i have lying around here.
The specs will be
a core 2 duo e6400
an hd 5850
random hp motherboard + cooler
an old hp case + 1 80 mm case fan
2 dvd rw's (ill get one out)
and the psu is a cooler master gx 450w
and for ram some 4 gb off ddr2 speed is unkown atm
and a 2.5 inch 320gb hdd
so the question is will this psu do or is it not good enough to power and hd 5850?

Hi Jaslion,
The Radeon HD 5850 requires a psu with 35-40A on the +12v rail and a 500W PSU minimum
I would suggest you upgrade your PSU for a quality psu from
seasonic/xfx or any of corsairs TX,HX or AX range of PSUs

thats too bad o well time to get a new psu.
btw on its single 12v rail its raited 35A and then i would have used a molex apdater with also a bunch off amps on it so i was thinking that that would have been enough but apparently no.

The Cooler Master GX450W is definitely an oddball. It is not terrible nor useless, but not great. For your build, it will be fine because the entire system does not use much power. I would only be careful with that PSU if you manage to put it under heavy loads because there are reviews that say the 12V does ripple under high loads, which is not good when the 12V readings were already low to begin with.

No better than that for $38..LOL. Enough 12v at 46a to support a 780ti (req 42a+600w) or 20nm maxwell later which may even drop watts depending on what they do with cores/speeds on maxwell. But upgrade for sure if you have the cash. IF not, you can still build it and downclock the gpu just to get something running. Knocking off 10-15% of the gpu core in Catalyst driver settings should drop things pretty dramatically if truly cash strapped and as you said you do have 35a 12v SINGLE (important, we like single!).

Edit: We're also talking a dual core cpu here. This isn't a chip that sucks up 125w or something.

Don't upgrade from a low-end to another low-end. That's a waste of money and will require another purchase. The build isn't worth an upgrade. It does need one, but I suggest a full build from scratch than to save any part of it.

I don't think the CX PSU would fit into those tiny pre-build HP cases.

its not tiny my gx 450w is so to say swimming in the case. its to tiny i can't even get all the screws in

Thanks for the suggestions but i live in belgium so newegg is not an option but i have foun that the cooler master b 600 w is only 45€ and 600w is plenty and i know it delivers its power because i'm running an ocd hd 7870 and an oc'd fx 8320 and a lot off other stuff in my main pc so i i'm geting that.

the 450watt should be good enough though and it has the 2xpcie connectors needed,

According to the different psu tier lists is the gx 450watt not that bad,but it just doesn't have the two pcie connectors for the gpu.
