A $69 dollar board does about the same as a $219 board

I read this article on tomshardware.com (http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/08/15/budget_and_premium_motherboards_at_the_crossroads/) and he basically says that these two boards are about the same in performance. The more expensive one just has more USB ports and little minor options (more audio ports). Well, I was surprised about that.

For the most part, IMO, the reason to buy a more expensive board is generally for features and overclocking. The much maligned ECS boards, which are generally 50 bucks or less, are fine if you're not overclocking and it has all the connectors you need.

That said, I'm pretty happy with my DFI Lanparty NF4 :)

don't buy ecs boards, ECS is the acronym Extra Crappy ****

It's not something I'd want, but I know people who've run them for years without an issue. For the average home user, they're more than sufficient. For the average THG reader, they're not.

This article is pretty interesting for people who might be building systems for other people on a budget. This means that you can operate within a tighter budget and still make sure your customer gets the performance they need.

Also it makes me happy to see that I'm not missing out on too much with my (relatively) budget board. 😀
