[citation][nom]TA152H[/nom]I think I've got you beat. I have a Model 50 never used, and a Model 50z never out of the box, as well as two new hard disks for them 😛 .In all seriousness, the PS/2s were such wonderful machines. HP and Dell? Uggggh.[/citation]

I've never owned any of them. I was born in 1986!
Computer Chronicles is an amazing show to watch. There are so many
'OMFG!' moments, like when they are talking about how file compression is starting to take storm in the software industry, or how Apple is thinking about releasing it's first laptop, or listening to them think of what the future of floppy disks will be....
And the Computer Bowls!

Very cool link. Thanks.

I have too many antique computers. I bought a storage room 10 x 20, and can't even fit 1/3 of my stuff. It's a mistake to buy so much stuff, you spend more time moving it out of the way than using it, but it's so tempting when you see if offered. But, then you get it, and wonder why you really needed it. Oh well, I guess that's part of being a stupid human.

I really like this concept. Besides the obvious advantages for laptops to now offer a simple upgrade path, it could also have the advantage of offering a viable option for the tablet devices where extra horsepower is needed, i.e., having the tablet be able to become the laptop display device when extra laptop horsepower is needed but then be easily removed when portability is required.

[citation][nom]digiex[/nom]Apple will hate this design. They made their design a technician's nightmare.[/citation]
Amen. I can get my heat sink off faster than I can get iPhones battery out.
Whie yes, small and integrated is nice for a casual laptop smaller, lighter, cheaper), I want a fully customizable option for 18.4" desktop replacement laptops. You can somewhat with Clevo's offerings, but not enough for my taste.

[citation][nom]razmanugget[/nom]I doubt it takes anyone reading this article 45 minutes to take apart a laptop. More like 5 on a bad day.[/citation]
We're talking about taking it apart, not breaking it apart. It's a slow process because no manufacturer has the same design. Covers, hinges, screws, etc. Once you're used to a model and have the correct tools, I guess the average time would be around 20 minutes. With my experience, I can say Macbooks are the worst. Something as simple as replacing a HDD is really a pain in the butt with those. Apple makes it difficult on purpose though.

need to disassemble laptop to access battery.... i guess apple's influence is far reaching

like the idea, now put a security feature to deter tech thieves from harvesting components, laptop memory has a very good resale value

It has some good ideas, but epic fails in others.

Good/Pros:
The detachable keyboard/touchpad is great for comfort.
Modular parts if and only if manufacturers conform to the same standard similar to desktops. It would also allow users more customizing/upgrade options than currently available.

Bad/Cons:
Modular parts do not look realistic. Did you notice how small the MB was? I disagree with the battery placement. I personally purchase the larger extended batteries, which would not fit where they placed it.
The video only showed a single storage drive and no optical drive. It looks ok for netbooks, but what about business-class laptops and desktop replacements. I would not want to carry a separate drive all the time.
