Unit: HP Pavilion m9340f Desktop
Windows Vista Home
Memory: 6GB (Samsung)
Hard drives: 750GB Seagate Barracuda ST3750630AS
750GB Samsung HD753LJ
Message "A disk read error occured Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart" started appearing at the boot instance about four days ago.
Until that I have had a few BSOD errors but never had booting problems
There was this piece of software that seemed to have caused most of the errors ( if not all )
Its called HAVA (Monsoon multimedia) which lets you capture TV video along the lines of Slingbox.
Whenever I SYSTEM-RESTORED AWAY the installation of the said software the BSODs would go away.
Yes. I tried re-installing the same piece of software several times and each time (after system restart) the software would lead to errors at boot. Eg: It would take some two-three restarts to finally successfully get to the Windows Vista login prompt.
======================
What I have tried so far:
#1 Removed each of the 4 RAM modules from the motherboard to find a faulty one and eliminate it.
Didn't work.
None of the modules seemed to be faulty after I ran an extensive HP Memory test
Address Test
Auxiliary Pattern Test
Bit High Test
Bit Low Test
Checkerboard Test
Nibble Move Test
Waling One Left Test
#2 Ran a HP Hard Drive Test on both the hard drives ( the test took some 5 hours easily !! )
Again no problems
SMART Status Test
Targeted Read Test
Random Seek Test
Funnel Seek Test
SMART Short Self Test
Surface Scan Test
Surface Scan Test - 2
But the "A disk read error occured Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart" still appears at the start
Tried changing BOOT settings. Tried F10, F8 and F11 but couldnt get this
prompt to show up.
I did SYSTEM RESTORE once from this prompt before and it worked. But now it wont even show up!
Thanks in advance.
