A disk read error occurred laptop

Hello,
when turning on my computer, all of a sudden i receive a message, a disk read error occurred press ctrl, alt, delete. I press this and it goes right back to the same message. What do I do

Can you startup in safe mode ?

Could be your HDD failing, try F8 when you power on and see if it boots into Safe Mode as ksiemb suggests, also see if it appears on the main page of your BIOS (setup? usually accessed by 'Del' at power on.)
