A few (easy) question

Hi all,
I've been playing since a few time and I'd like to ask some (basic)
question.

What's the time management when a Sim goes to a community lot (Such as pool
or market -sorry if the names aren't correct, I have the italian version)?
When a sim leaves the house, at noon for example, stays away until 8.00 pm,
and come back is still noon! (he has gained 8 hours!)
At the community lots is food for free? can I cook hamburgers and hot dogs
for free?
Why sometime I see my children in the swimming pool while they are supposed
to be at school? I saw them jumping on the bus!
Which factors affect my career? how can i discover which skill I have to
imporve to be promoted? or what is missing (i.,e.for example, two new
friends?)
And at last, I didn't find it, but I'm sure a website exists to teach me all
this sort of informations!

That's right you go back to the time it was when you left but your needs
stay depleted the way they got on the community lot.

Seems to be free when I have grilled on them. I was late to discover that
but I had a cash strapped Sim who loved that feature.

I don't know why but it does happen that kids are on community lots during
school hours.

When you go to your skills list there will be a circle around the level of
the skill you need for the next promotion unless you ahve already passed it.
