A retractable lens always blocks the flash light if it is located behind it.
What if the flash is mounted on a flexible tendril?
The light source can be placed on the side of the lens.

Not sure about the purpose of this thread.

Is there some sort of digital camera/light problem and the question is if using or mounting lights to the side of the lens will resolve the problem.

Make and model camera?

More information needed.

Lens mounted ring lights are the standard for macro photography. They have existed for a LONG time. Wires for the electrical connections are much simpler than optical paths for the emitted light flash. Here is an example Canon -- https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/macro-ring-lite-mr-14ex-ii?type=New
