I play at full res at max quality... and seems very fluid like to me...
Of course, I have a X1800XT and a Opteron 175 that assists a bit.
Enough to get 4580 in 3Dmark06

1920 x 1200 at full res with a single X1800XT? I'm feeling better and better about playing Oblivion with all the candy when I get my rig built 😀

For those who want to know

Upgrading from a Asus CUSL-2, PIII 800, 512 MB PC100 cas2, Ti4200, 17" Sony 200ES

Asus A8N32-SLI
AMD Athlon X2 4400+
2 x 1 GB Corsair XMS 3500LL Pro
2 x EVGA 7800GTX 256-P2-N529
Dell 2405 FPW

BTW I am hoping for a MASSIVE dfifference...

I run my 2405 with Battlefield 2 at native res with all eye candy (but I haven't tried with max AA yet) and it is smooth. I haven't bought FEAR yet, but I want to see how well my system will be able to run it at 1920x1200.

My specs:
AMD X2 4800+
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
2GB OCZ (2 x 1024MB) PC4000 Gold
2 x Asus GF7800GTX T.O.P. (in SLI)
2 x WD SATA 300GB (in RAID 0)

Now if I can just find the time to devote to a new game like FEAR... all of my free time is spent playing BF2. 😀

It just arrived...all I can say is wow. Still waiting on my 2nd hard drive then It'll be done. I am NOT looking foreward to cleaning everything off my old rig and setting this one up with said software. Ah well, that's how it goes. I'll let you know how it all turns out.

It's pretty overwhelming. I actually went from a 19" CRT (so 17" viewable) to a 20.1" 2005fpw which was a big difference. Then a few weeks later I went to the 24" 2405fpw and that was a big difference too.

So depending on what you upgraded from you might have had a huge shock. 😀

BTW,

Does anyone know how to clean these things safely? I have a small smudge of spit or something on the screen and don't want to mess it up.

dhluck not quite sure but you do get proper lcd cleaning stuff, wipes, fluids
etc. you can use water which i did on my laptop screen, just be sure to use a lint free cloth. its gotta be pretty smooth otherwise you get streaks.
perhps you could check dells website see if they have any advice

I've got this spray bottle of "Monitor Cleaning Solution" comes with a microfiber cloth. Thats probably what you need. I dont know what kind of solution it is but I would think that water or alchohol would be ok. I wouldnt try alchohol on my monitor though. If you could find a bottle of that stuff somewhere that would be ideal.

Well I ordered my computer, I went ahead and splurged!

Asus A8n5x NF4 939 socket mobo
AMD 64 3700+ 939 socket San Diego Core (1mb l2 cache)
2x1gb Corsair XMS (2gb kit)
Saphire x1900xt 512 mb video card
Cooler Master Centurion 5 case (tooless bays)
Aspire 500w power supply

I think i'll be good for a while now, lol. Thanks for making the descion on the video card easy! I can't wait!!

Opps, I replied to the wrong post. I had to decide between a new monitor or a major computer upgrade and upgraded my computer instead. My 21" silicon graphics monitor isn't horrible at all!

No dead pixels!!!! NONE

I'm so happy about that. Anywho I know I have seen some ppl post about optimizing the settings of this display. I just cant seem to find the right thread right now. Any owners have some suggestions for me?

Just a question for Dell 2405 owners...

How well does the dell handle scaled down resolutions such as (1280x800)?

I've ordered the 2405 but I am on the fence on whether I need to upgrade my Geforce 6600GT to a 7800GS/7800GT or just play games at a lower res... (just a casual gamer here)

Any info on this?

Thanks.

depends on your eyes. you might find it looks terrible but i find things look ok. in saying that the only 4:3 format i use is 16x10. what sort of games do you play, if its fps ill try out cs:s and tell you how it is.

I play fps games like Doom, Rainbow Six Lockdown, HL2

I also play warcraft 3, star wars empire at war..

Please do let me know how CS:S goes.

Thanks a bunch.

just tried HL2. IMO as long as you setup your gfx card settings right and also the monitor settings it looks fine. it obviously looks better at native but when your moving about you probably won't notice a difference . as with any game lowering AA and AF produces the worst results so if you can keep those pretty high it should be fine. just play around with different aspects like 16:10 or 4:3 and see what fits best. 1080 x 768 looked pretty good.

trust me on one thing. even if you just use this monitor for surfing you won't be able to go back to a small low-res screen again.

I haven't tried any lower resolutions yet as I haven't really needed to. Now, I will say that even with two 7800GTX in SLI I still get some pretty low framerates in Oblivion. I have yet to really try tweaking Oblivion to get the performance up, out of a sheer lack of time.

Without a doubt, the best 24" flat panel display is the LaCie 324.

It is used by artists, photographers, game designers, video editors, etc..

Ask virtually any true professional and they will agree with this statement.

LaCie monitors are not inexpensive though.

So if you are on a tight budget and need a cheap monitor, this one's not for you.

Hey there... did u have any luck finding the LED at 1920x1200? I found one in asia in that resolution at 24" !!! Their 27" is a whopping 2560x1440... basically the same thing as the Apple displays, but got PC's... looked awesome... USA is so slow to get these cool electronics, like TV's and phones as well.

Even this expensive Lacie 324i supports 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz:

Is there any LCD monitor running that high resolution but at 75 Hz of vertical refresh?
