A good and affordable PSU for an HD 6950

Hello,

I'll soon be upgrading my graphics card from a HD 6670 to a 1GB XFX ATI Radeon HD6950 so I'll be needing to upgrade my power supply as well. After looking around, I'm currently considering getting an Antec EA-500 500W Earthwatts PSU but I'd rather be safe and get some advice before I buy it.

I won't be overclocking the graphics card and the only overclocking on my PC is an automatic overclocking through OC Genie. I'll be using it for gaming (Planetside 2, Borderlands 2, etc) at 1920x1080 resolution on a single monitor.

My current specs are:

AMD FX-6100 3.6GHz Six Core CPU (Overclocked from 3.3GHz)
MSI 760GM-p21 fx motherboard
16GB 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM
120GB OCZ Solid 3 SSD (OS boot drive)
1TB SATA II 7200RPM HDD
ATI Radeon HD 6670 2GB
CIT ATX 450w PSU

If you have any other recommendations or advice for a good PSU then that would be brilliant. Thanks in advance.

The antec 500w should be fine. Other good brands are corsair, enermax, seasonic, ocz, and xfx.

Brilliant, thanks for the reassurance. I think I might go for the XFX Pro 550w core edition PSU as I can get that cheaper than the Antec.

XFX is an excellent choice.

i think with the 550w xfx you can still easily overclock in CCC; no need to tweak voltages in afterburner, you can leave those at stock, just push the sliders to the max

If you can wait for OCZ ZS series units to become more readily available in the UK again - don't know when this will happen though - then I'd suggest doing so. If not then there's not much wrong with the XFX ProSeries 550W Core Edition.
