Hi, I know this is weird but did anybody find a 50-150$ CAD router with minimum and preferably 1 phone port + 4 ethernet and wan port? I've searched in amazon and most of the routers got no phone port. If I can use some kind of adapter it would be ok with me. I'll just have to buy the router without phone ports and use the adapter.

Thanks a bunch!

Hmm, the router Kahlo has is a rather unique model:

I have actually not seen anything else like it... I cannot actually say for sure that another modem won't work with his ISP and VOIP settings, but it will have to be tested as compatible. Has anyone seen something equivalent?

Hello.

Routers never include a phone port. A phone line is completely separate from computer systems, and isn't related at all to LAN or WIFI.

Why are you looking for a phone port? A phone line needs to be activated using a phone provider, and is never free.

If you are looking for a phone line that works over internet, then there is multiple providers, such as MagicJack. This will cost you around 30$ per year.

^what he said, you're not going to be plugging a phone into a router. Are you looking for a DSL modem/router combo DSL? DSL is where your internet comes in over phone line.

Edit: Well, I stand corrected, I guess there are at least some routers out there you can plug a phone into.

I have a 20 mpb/s up and down coaxial cable plan. It's plugged into a modem that then goes to the router. I'm paying for a Internet and Phone combo. I swear the router has a phone port here's the router: Thomson TG784

Hello. This is not a typical router. The Thomson TG784 actually includes a VoIP service with it, which I assume you will need to pay Thomson for. It is a custom build router for the Thomson company, possibly proprietary.

So I can't use another router with a phone port? By the way my ISP is Mektel. Because I want to change it and I can't find one. Also, are there adapters?

You want to buy you own router and not purchase it from the ISP, is that the gist? Need to go into this ISP specific forum and ask what compatible VOIP router you can buy, perhaps dslreport.com(?) Google "compatible VOIP Mektel router/gateway/modem"

The answer is no, you can't use another router that has a phone port if it is not supplied by Mektel. If your ISP and phone line is contracted to Mektel, another router will not work with that ISP.

What do you want to change? The router itself, or the ISP...?

Why? In general it's not a problem swapping out ISP-provided modems/routers, I don't see why having VoIP changes that. An ISP probably doesn't care or even know what exact hardware you're running on your end. As @jsmithepa said, it's important to check for compatibility, but beyond that it seems unlikely you have to use the exact model the ISP provided and nothing else.

I guess I'll get one and give it a try and if it doesn't work I return it. Because the Thomson router is quite garbage and slow and I wanted to change it to have something more powerful and stable. Thank though.
