So I'm looking for a stereo system to buy for the house. I want basically an echo alternative but all I really want is a bluetooth connection and a remote control. I've been looking at Amazon and my max is about 150. So far I've cut it down to about half a dozen options if anybody can give any advice to help choose between them. Thanks!

While that is true, it is regularly priced at 69.99 on Newegg so it may just be price gouged on Amazon to look better.

I thought of that too.

On another note: I read the article here on audio, it didn't mention speakers' transient response, I don't think. That's the ability of the speaker to pick up very short sounds. Old Altec Voice of the Theater speakers in the movie houses had separate tweeter horns with their own crossovers, and sounds would really pop.

I heartily recommend studio monitor speakers (I have some JBL 4312s) with high efficiency, then one doesn't need a powerful amplifier. Add a subwoofer, and you're good to go. I'd go used for these, might be a real bargain.

While I do hear great things about JBLs, those in particular look fairly large in the pictures. My hope was something that can fit on a shelf without taking up too much space. I live in a fairly small apartment.
