A graphics card that only takes up 1 slot.

It seems like all those New PCIe 16x Ver. 2.0 graphics cards witn nVidia or ATI chipsets take up 2 slots (those sluts).

Does any outfit make a card that is SLI or Crossfire ready and PCI Ver. 2.0 compliant that only takes a single slot?

There must be a better way to make those engineers earn money in China.

Your right, almost all the cards sold today are dual slot cards, exept the low end and watercooled ones.

I once had a HD 4850 that was single slot and could be crossfired but I cant seem to find it now.

Found some 1 slot 5670s on newegg, 4670 and below models have only 1 slot aswell but they are very weak cards.

The 4850/4830 reference were single-slot, however few AIBs use the reference cooler.
The best probably is a 5670.

Yeah, it takes 2 slots to ensure the card get a better cooling, bigger surface of cooler(2 slots) can make a card run more cooler than a single slot card...

The single slot 4850s ran pretty hot, which is why many AIBs used bigger coolers. The cooler was intended for lower clock speeds and the 4850 was originally targeted at the 9800GT rather than the 9800GTX. Anyway, some single slot 5750s are popping up and I'm sure that as supply improves AIBs will design some single slot 5770s.

The heatasink and fan still protrudes beyond a single slot if you look at the profile picture.

I checked with a neighbor that does network maintainence and he told me he would check with his China vendor to see if he could find a PCI-e 16x video card that goes in the very top slot and has the cooling fan system going up towards the power supply.

I ordered a GeForce 9800 GT 1 GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support from Newegg.com, it seems to take a single slot and I could add a second video for SLI if necessary. 😉

Hey i have a similar problem.

Only diference is mine only takes up one pci express X16 port but its so wide that it covers up my pci express X1 so i have to relocate my LAN card.

any suggestions?
