spoil space

Hi,

This is about those damn cats, and a silly little dwarf by the name of
of Thrundarr. He just asked me to kill a cave tiger. I hate him.

My question is, will he accept an alternative method of killing a cat,
which does not incriminate me with breaking the Cat Lord's rule (e.g. wand
of destruction, death by trap, companion etc.?)

I'm certain that the kill won't count if it doesn't appear in your kill
list; this means that you're either going to have to rub out the cave
tiger yourself, or abandon Thrundarr's quests altogether. Sorry.

The two aren't mutually exclusive: it would be possible to complete the
portal quest, descend to the level of the Master Cat, receive the ring,
then kill a cave tiger when not wearing it, and go see Thrundarr for the
rest of his quests.

Or, my guess of how this usually works out: Wait until you accidentally
kill a cat by setting off a trap or walking into a dark room 😉

Since I'm playing a grey elven wizard and I have controlled and on demand
teleport I think I'll try the pre-emptive Master Cat strategy. Although
trying to make it down to D:35 with a (presently) level 11 character's
going to be interesting, IMO, especially vis a vis the TOEF. Furthermore,
it might wreck Thrundarr's second quest (the living forest thing). It
might also put Rehetep out of the question, unless I manage to find a
spellbook of fireball (or manage to get to D:35 before breaking the level
limit).

Those damn cats... Thanks for the help!

I wouldn't depend on making it down that far without going past level
17. Even if you manage to survive the Tower, just killing the Wyrm for
the Orb would give you enough experience to, probably, push you over or
at least close to the edge. The best bet in that case would be to read a
scroll of familiar summoning (if you've got one) on DH:2 and hope for a
greater titan or diamond golem or something that can withstand not only
the heat, but the beating, and have that kill not only the Wyrm, but
everything. The Tower would be an experience gold mine for a level 11
character if it were a practical option for the purpose.

As a wizard, you shouldn't strictly need Fireball for the Pyramid. If
you're insecure, you can scum the ID for one, but if you have some
well-trained bolt spells, even Frost Bolt but especially Fire Bolt, or
if you have Burning Hands, then you should be able to deal with it. A
well-trained Burning Hands spell can take down Rehetep in one or two
castings, actually.

Tower heat does not affect companions. Almost No background effect does.
The notable exception is drowning in the WDL.

Hrm. Sounds like a good way to get rid of an inconvinient banshee or
overpowered companion that has gotten too dangerous.
