A little extra money

I have compiled a list of components that I am thinking of buying for my sisters new rig. She is not a "hardcore" gamer, but she does want to play The Sims 2. I realize that this system will be far better than what is required to run that game, but this way I know she will be happy with it. There is a little money left over, but I am sure she would be happy to get some money back. If you see an area where you think I could change something let me know.

Wherever I have 2 different components listed is where I haven't made a decision between them yet, so input is appreciated here (and everywhere else for that matter).

Thanks again guys,

Keyboard/Mouse:

CPU: I would get the 3000+ and the $67
MOBO: The DFI Lanparty nf4U is also $175.95, or if you're set with those 2 options I like the MSI better because the chipset is nvidia
HD: The 160GB one

Nothing is as easy as it looks

No reason to get a DVD and a CD writer, since the DVD will rite CD's also...

Well... I am in the process of ordering this or this. And I decided not to pick up any HD or ram cooling extras from koolance, but I am going to get the CPU, GPU, and Northbridge heat blocks from them. I will probably custom my res just like you have... as I am having trouble finding one of the size that yours are. But if you have any further suggestions... let me know. If you do check out the first link here... let me know what options you would get on that case if you had all this money.

Alrighty guys... thanks for the help. I think its just about time to put the order in. If you have any suggestions on a monitor that would be great... here is what I have to choose from. I don't have a clue what to pick here. I know that it has to be 17 inches or bigger... but I really don't know what brand to go with. We should have close to 500 bucks left to spend on a monitor (although we could probably stretch this a bit, if needed).

Thanks again guys

My resies arent anything special. Walmart all day long  . That case is nice, just dont pay to much for things that you can do yourself.

Starfishy, can you buy from newegg? If so, those prices you got from anitilesuckyprices is a lot more expensive than newegg. I would try buying all that stuff from newegg, way better prices.

They don't ship to Canada... and these prices are pretty much on par with the exchange rate (I think). Anitec is one of the cheapest stores I have found in Canada, and they have a pretty good selection (for Canada).

P.S. Does anyone have a suggestion for the monitor?

I have a 19" Planar ... it's ok for me.

The BenQ FP931D (Silver/Black) 19" TFT-LCD 16ms, 450:1, DVI & VGA -- looks pretty good for $379.00 (after rebate).

Pretty good looks like to me ...

You probably need to consider at what resolution your sister wants to use this at -- for me, I'd try to find the best ratio, good refresh times and highest resolution that will be native on the LCD. For the price - that BenQ looks pretty good ... but I'd want larger resolution -- however, the 1280x1024 might be good for your sister.

HTH

I wouldnt order a monitor online unless you have actually been in front of the exact same model that you are ordering. With LCD's everyones eyes react differently to the screen. If you are unlucky like me you may be really sensitve to ghosting, rainbow effect..... The other thing to consider is the possibility of dead pixels. How much are you spending on a monitor?

If you are gone get an LCD, look for one with 8ms refresh. These will offer the best picture for games and movies. I would either go for a 17" LCD or a 19" CRT.

I used to work at that anitec place. Great store in terms of pricing, but service? what service.

Monitor go with a Hyundai L90D+, it's cheap you can find it around 450, in fact it's on sale right now at ncix.com, and it has 8ms refresh rate, a good 8ms refresh, not a LG 8ms refresh.

I have never had any problems with the service. I have had a few problems with a couple LCD monitors (pixels), but they were all still under manufacturers waranty so I never even contacted anitec.
