Hi, I have just built my first build and I am facing a problem where the monitor won't recognize the PC.

First here are my specs:

Mobo: gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P

ram : 4gb ddr3

GPU: Nvidia Geforce 210

Processor: Amd FX 8320E

PSU: Cit Atx 700W

The problem I have is that the all the fans and lights power on and I can see flashing light on the ethernet port but I see nothing on the monitor when it boots up. This is not the monitor as I have used it on another one too and the same problem.

I had an MSI radeon R9 270 and I thought it was broke but now I get the same problem with the geforce 210.

I'm at a loss now and don't no what the problem could be. If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.

Did you download the correct drivers from Nvidia ?

Did you test unplugging the cable from the graphics card and putting in into the Mobo's VGA/DVI/HDMI ports?
(note: remove Geforce card when doing this)

The mobo doesn't have any of those ports. I don't have windows installed yet but it won't even boot so I can get into the bios?

I suppose a really simple question is what monitor and cable are you using?

GT210 should have VGA, but not necessarily so. If you are using DVI there are two types DVI-I and DVI-D. If you are using an adapter there are certain resolutions that aren't supported.

Also need to make sure that your monitor is on the appropriate input if there is more then one.

Another simple test, boot the PC without a video card and see what it does. If the behavior is the same as before, then there is something else wrong.

Sorry I read that wrong. I have tried HDMI and just tried VGA there now with no change. The monitor is an Acer K272HL if it was a problem with PSU then the fans wouldn't even turn on right?

That doesn't mean much actually. Just means that it is getting 5V from the power supply. The charging circuitry is in your battery or phone.

To what extent is the system booting? Does it beep or sound like it is making it to the OS? Or just sitting there?

Two different video cards and a known good monitor. I would have to say there is something really simple you are missing. How have you tested the monitor before?

As stated I have not installed an OS yet. It makes no noises or beeps but I don't have speakers attached? The monitor has been used before and worked fine that time. Really have no idea what the problem could be

I was attempting to get you to be more specific as that is the only way we are going to be able to help via text like this.

Literally, how did you use the monitor before? Connection type, system it was plugged into, everything.

Most motherboards/cases have a PC speaker output. Either a small buzzer, or an actual speaker mounted to the chassis. A successful boot will be a single beep, even if there is no OS.

There might be a beep code for no boot device, but that varies by vendor.

If you haven't gone through the troubleshooting stickies' steps you should start there.

Sorry, I have used the monitor with a chromebook before via HDMI. It worked fine and is literally only a month or two old.

I have gone through all the troubleshooting steps to no avail. I have tried using only one stick of ram and I have tried unplugging the ssd and still nothing.

Everything is brand new so I don't no what could be the problem. Could it be the aftermarket cooler?

Hard to mess up an AMD CPU, unless you crushed some pins. If you haven't taken it out to check that would be a good thing to check.

Intel's LGA sockets are pretty fragile and can be easily damaged with improper heatsink installation.

HDMI should work out of the box, without an OS or drivers. I am wondering if the screen resolution in the BIOS is too low for the monitor to display. Though it does have a UEFI BIOS.

R9-270 certainly supports a UEFI BIOS. GT 210 might not, it could require a firmware flash to make it work properly.

I have removed CPU more than once to check for bent pins and all is good. Could it be that there is not enough thermal past on it?

Should I switch the CPU cooler for the stock one?
