I did the proper line for my q6600 & hyper 212+, but maybe did a little bit to extra. The temps never go above 58c under heavy load, and stay around 40c, but I was curious how important that metal contact is, and if a little to thick of a layer would hinder performance. After all it serves as a heat reducer not a conductor.

No, it is a heat conductor. It conducts the heat from the IHS on the CPU to the bottom of the cooler.

Pea sized is about right.

Unless it's coming out around the sides, it's fine.


Yea that's what I thought, no I just did a line a little thicker than recommended nothing major, I did spin that heatsink back a forth a couple of degree's while installing it and the board quite a bit, thanks for the 2nd opinion.
