A lot of people are telling me 8GB is enough...

I have a current build where I have 16GB since it's inexpensive.. but a lot of people are saying I'd never need 16GB and to go down to 8GB...

so I'm confused on what I should do. I worry about having more than enough so I never get squeezed during multitasking.. doesn't anything take more than 8gb, such as video processing or photo editing?

Forget what they are telling u. Unless they cover other areas than gaming.

If u edit any videos or images or 3D modeling or u like to work with audio apps.

And why not get 16GB if the price is so cheap.

OK, 8GB for gaming, but 4GB to use as a RAMdisc and enjoy the fastest HDD u will own in the near future : )

Get 16GB or even 32GB, u never know what u gonna do next year.

Actualy yes a gamer PC do never need over 8G of RAM the rest is a waste. If tech change then you can always buy more lather but I doubt ti will hapen in the next 3-4 years.

Also why buying an Extra 8G of RAM now if you can wait once you need these to get bether ones or the same ones at a lower price. All in all like you've said RAM is rather cheap nowadays and ti won't hurt you as long as you don't buy 2x 8G (they are bugged)

DDR memory is extremely cheap right now. If you want to 100% guarntee everyone on this forum that they'll remain this cheap, and pay for any memory price hikes than sure, we can use your reply. However in the offset that memory prices do rise in the future, you'd be screwed.

Buy more RAM now than later... computer pricing of equipment is a volatile market, no one will ever gaurntee prices will remain the same 1 - 3years down the road.

Look at HDD prices right now, venur probably would've told you to hold off on getting a bigger HDD than you needed a year ago, the 3 1TB HDD's I bought in Jan 2011, were $80/per, now they are $260. No one can predict component prices.

Get as much RAM as you want :)

I doubt that, they're actually losing money right now, because they can't keep up 'volume sales'.

IE, you sell 10million HDD's @ $100/per = $1Billion in sales.
IE, you sell 1million HDD's @ $400/per = $400Million in sales.

Even with your 400% price increase, you lose 60% of sales.

The largest customers of HDD's are big companies like Samsung, Toshiba, Dell, HP, Acer, Lenovo... they equate well over 80% of all HDD sales.

With computers, Volume Selling is EVERYTHING, to turn a profit. Why do you think Intel, and Nvidia are so sucessful, they primarily sell in mass volumes, the likes of us, mean little to them. However, AMD/Radeon, tailor to less volume sales, and in return are substantially smaller companies than Intel/Nvidia. (AMD is trying to become a larger volume producer(within the last few years), and there profits are improving.)

Back onto the subject:

Get as much RAM as you can within your budget :)
