Hello and good day to all.

I installed a SATA M.2 device (from AsRock Storage QVL) in my X299 TaiChi. I plan to use it for storage.

It is installed in M2_1 slot. I see it in the BIOS but not in Windows. How do I gain access to it in Windows?

I do not have a drive in SATA3_1 so there should not be a conflict as the User manual states the following:

  • If M2_1 is occupied by a SATA-type M.2 device, SATA3_1 will be disabled.
  • If M2_2 is occupied by a SATA-type M.2 device, SATA3_0 will be disabled.
  • If M2_3 is occupied by a SATA-type M.2 device, SATA3_7 will be disabled.

I bring up this potential issue as I read in another post that only M2_2 supports SATA drives. If the User Manual is correct then all three M.2 slots will accept SATA M.2.

Is either sata port 3 or 4 in use?
Only M2_2 supports a Sata drive.

Thank you in advance for you kind replies and expert guidance.

Pura Vida.

Greetings rgd1101.

You must excuse my inadequacies this beautiful morning.

It seems that I skipped a most important step in my rush and in the process accidentally wasted your time. My apologies good sir.

As stated here:
if u see it in bios, then in windows u need to initialise it first (in device manager)

I jumped the proverbial gun.

I am happy to report that everything is running as it should now that I followed the process.

Consider this problem solved and another happy and appreciative reader of this forum made.

Have a most excellent day.
