A missing part?

I'm a complete newbie with electronics, but my friend disassembled his
Vectrex to change (uh condensators? capacitators?) and when he put it back
together a piece fell out, which he described to me as

AXIAL 10uF 50V

He said it fell from to under side of the PCB... Anybody know where it
belongs?
Can't find it from the Service Manual either...

Thanks.

This is a capacitor. If it has solder on it and short leads .. it
"might" have broken off and fallen out. If it has long leads and no
solder .. then it is an extra. Was it dropped into the console by
mistake?

Does the Vectrex work after reassembly?

He says he remembers it being soldered to the monitor board. It fell out
while he was replacing caps and now he can't figure out where it belongs.I
don't think he dares to try switching it on before solving this mystery.

Sorry it has taken me some time to respond. I've been busy with family
matters during our annual Thanksgiving day.

According to the parts list I found two 10uF capacitors. One is C113
which is on the vertical Power Board. The other is C228 which is on the
horizontal Logic Board.

If you have downloaded the service manual you will find C113 as a round
circle in the lower center of the Power Board illustration on page 14.
It is just above the N in COMPONENT.

Also look for the circle labeled C228 in the center of the illustration
on page 13 which is the Logic Board.

Hope that helps!

Doesn't it seem likely that this was one of the original caps that was
replaced, and was just accidentally dropped onto the board?

>>Maybe this capasitor is missing in USA-version, my vectrex is european 220v model. Service manual is for 110vac-model.. It would be nice if someone opens european vectrex and check this.<<

Welcome Jari! Maybe Richard will open one of his Vectri ..

Yeah, it's very unlikely that it fell off the actual PCB like that + the
fact that he can't find the place where it came from suggests it's just a
loose cap that fell in there somehow.

Tell him to switch it on, even if it is missing, a small ceramic cap isn't
going to cause his Vec to explode.

Sorry, I read it as 10 nF

Like Rob said, if these 2 are still in place then there's nothing to worry
about i.e it didn't come from the Vec

No, it was on solder-side of the power pcb, this was only component on
the backside of pcb. This is why i remember it so well. Now i
dont know where to put it because it was not marked on pcb like
other components on parts-side. Capasitor is 10uF 50v AXIAL and this is
only axial style capasitor.
Maybe this capasitor is missing in USA-version, my vectrex is european
220v model. Service manual is for 110vac-model.. It would be nice if
someone opens european vectrex and check this.

I've just opened the one I have here (others are loaned out) and there's no
capacitors soldered to the backs of either PCB.

Perhaps yours is an older model before they did a board layout revision or
something.
