A network tool that could show all connections within a host and out of it?

Hi folks.

I'm often working with GNS3 and VMware Workstation. Sometimes I want to know how some devices interact with each other, because it is not always obvious, especially when there is a nesting involved in a virtualised environment. I would like to see a logic path of those connections.

Do you know if such tools exist? Thank you.

I'm verry sorry for the late reply. The Wireshark seems a good option. But not really. Something that could show the logical path: 192.168.0.30:5000 > 127.0.0.1: 6000 > 192.168.50.4:6700. So that I could see the whole comminication path.

routers just move packets around. they won't have data on all the places they have been. you would need to monitor each place and log it. you are only going to see what's on your side. something like traceroute can provide more details on the route, but it's opt-in at each router.

But that's routers. What about a host intenal routing? GNS3 and Hypervisors operate on a local host mostly. GNS3 has a server where it keeps Cisco images, and this server, in turn, is virtulised in VMware Workstation. Then you connect those virtual devices with other devices that can be located on different subnets. Routing-vise, the intrenal routing on the background can get complicated. Would be nice to have a tool that could SEE those paths.

Internal routing can get very complicated. I have no experience there.
I've watched this video before. It's very interesting. I've never done it or had access to hardware that supports it.

Doesn't Virtual Studio have debugging tools to kind of follow what an app is doing? i.e. log when app is doing THIS?
