A question about Strix Z370 - E Gaming board M.2 sockets

This is my first build and am wondering about M.2 sockets on the Asus ROG Strix Z370 - E Gaming board. Information provided by Asus indicates there are two M.2 sockets on the board.

"M.2_1 socket supports PCIe 3.0 x 4 and SATA mode M key design and type 2242 / 2260 / 2280 PCIe and SATA storage devices"

"M.2_2 socket supports PCIe 3.0 x 4 M key design and type 2242 / 2260 / 2280 PCIe storage devices"

What does all of that mean?

How I read it is that....the M.2_1 socket supports NVMe and SATA drives and the M.2_1 socket supports only NVMe drives.

2242 / 2260 / 2280:

The first two digits specify the width in millimeters and the second two or three digits specify the length.
