am thinking of buying a mobo like GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H along with a GTX660Ti, my old GPU is 9800GTX+ , I don't know if I can use both GPUs (9800 & 660Ti) on my mobo with SLI ?? the question is can we use 2 GPUs on one board ONE is PCIE 3.0 & the other one is PCIE 2.0??

Plz don't laugh, never used SLI in my life & that 9800GTX+ will die slowly on my shelf from dust so am thinking of using it while still alive if possible with a 3rd gen PCIE.

ty :)

just to add...

you don't need SLI bridge for dedicated PhysX. also that dedicated PhysX card will not help in any rendering (you need SLI for that). its only useful for games with advance GPU accelerated physic effect with PhysX that barely being use in any games.

btw GTX660Ti is quite capable itself for advance gpu accelerated stuff so there is no need to use 9800GTX+ as dedicated card if the performance impact was not much

for SLI you need strictly need to use 2 exact card. for example if you want to SLI GTX660 Ti the second card must be GTX660Ti as well. but you can combine the two making the GTX660Ti as primary card (rendering) and 9800GTX+ as dedicated PhysX card.

yes. for such purpose that i mention above or just add a second card on the extra PCI-E slot to add monitor output

thanks Renz, the next question is how can I combine both of them making 660 as primary & 9800 as a dedicated card? you mean @ the BIOS ?? do I need an SLI bridge between these 2? ...am a newbie to this matter & I don't know if I get any extra GPU power from doing this while playing heavy games like BF3 & AC3??

thanks for the quick reply :)

That's done via the Nvidia control panel.
