A required CD DVD drive device driver is missing

When i try to install windows server 2008 r2 on vmware workstation it displays an error
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step"
What should I do ?

Is this message displayed by 2008' setup routine, or by VMware?
Have you tried using ISO mounted as CD/DVD inside vmware' VM settings?
