I have a question thats been bugging me for quite some time and its to do with RAM, now, I understand Single, Dual & Quad Channel, but...

Lets say for example I wanted 64gb of RAM, but the fastest 64gb kit was only 2400, but there's a 3200 single 8gb, could i just buy 8 single 8gb kit?

As long as they were the same make etc, would this still activate the quad channel etc?

Its been bugging me for some time

with ram kits the vendor is putting in the kits the same lot and ram with the same ram chips in a kit so that the end user does not get memory errors or bsod or lock up from miss matched ram. when you buy the same ram from a ram vendor your going to get 4 stick from 4 lots that will be the same or close to the same spec but may have ram chips from 4 different vendors. you may get lucky and not have any issues or one of the ram stick may not like to run with another. the other reason ram is sold it kits is to save people money over buying 4 dimms.

Thanks for the responses :) That's a ah heck lol i have another question, so if the issue relates to possible 'lots' being not compatible, then you could have the same issue if you purchased 2 x 32gb quad channel kits?

If that's the case that's is extremely lame on a manufacturer's part
