A very detailed FX5900U (BFG) Review from nVNews

I was impressed in the detail of the <A HREF="http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/bfg_geforce_fx_5900_ultra/index.shtml" target="_new">review of the BFG FX5900U</A> at nVNews. The intro is a little 'unusual' but I think it sets the ground rules fairly clearly.

I am a little disappointed that there was no R9800 to compae to, but the amount of tests run should give a good idea of the basic performance of the card itself which is pretty Dang Good! I was a little dissapointed there was no bench for IL-2, but I can trust the 'impressions' of the author, and understand the constraints of time.
I even found a nice link to Morrowind stuff (BTW, check out the comment about AA with the DET 44.03 [fixed with th 44.61] in Morrowind).

All in all a pretty good view of the BFG card.

I know your pain, I just had a dial up for about 4 days and that’s like not having any Internet access, lol. That’s why I haven’t been around for a few days, clicking anything, let alone a picture shot is a joke. Once you get use to high speed its hard sitting down and searching with a dial up, unless you have to.

The funny thing is it's not my internet or my computer (tehnically) that is the problem, but the level of security on it!

I'm on a P3 1+ghz connected to an switch connected to an OC3 connection (about 100 times faster than your 'high speed') right in the building. However the virus-scan/firewall is using between 83-99% of my CPU (according to task manager graph), and everytime it spikes with an NTdfrg I even lose keystrokes. Sux big-time!

But considering I have this an two other IE windows open along with 'work' open it's not surprising that it's a little 'slow'.

Yeah I remember you saying that before, either way it’s no fun at all. They should give you your own computer, just tell them how much quicker you will be able to reply in the forums and there for have more time to do some actually work, hehe.

That pic looks terrible, I see there are a lot of steps, but none on the pic I have or in the game. I did have or still do have a tweak that will allow you to set the time for the details to stay, now that gets messy and will bring down any card.

Oooo, wow, high FPS in UT? No way. Comon jiffy man!! Move to UT2k3. Although it is extremely fun in UT to do 'playersonly' and then shoot like 500 redeemers!!! or 1000 rippers! or whatever, and then unpause it. (and make it a demo). I had some really good demos like that but I don't have em anymore.

In ut2k3 you can do 'playersonly' but you cant shoot in that mode🙁

In OpenGL I was getting FPS as high as 500, but they wouldn’t stay there. Now I’m at around 85, probably because my refresh rate is set at 85. Other word 100=100, I’m not sure what changes I made to get 500.

About the only thing I like about UT3 is the way it looks, and at the same time I don’t like the looks of it. A bot can be standing right in front of me up against the wall and I may not even notice him and run pass him. I been playing UT almost every day since I got it three years ago, and UT3 I didn’t play with it for weeks after the first hour I played it. I played it a couple times on line and half the time I wouldn't know who killed me, maybe someone standing against a tree and I didn’t see them. I might play it some more, but I don’t expect it to keep my interest or offer the intense game play I’m use to with UT.
