I'm lookng to buy a cheap gaming laptop (only have 500-600$) and a desktop build would be too expensive to buy everything needed, like monitor, OS etc etc. A friend of mine (from ign.com a gaming website) said he bought a laptop like this for 550$ and it can play games like battle field 3 on medium to high settings.. is this true? Honestly the games I will want to run on medium to high settings (don't care about ultra) are diablo 3, torchlight 2, guild wars 2 and elder scrolls online.. maybe world of warcraft. He said it will run these games with ease... I don't care about Crysis 3 or BF3 and big games like that just mostly RPG's and dunegon crawlers and MMO's. Anyone know if they can? Or any similar priced laptops that can run these games at decent settings? Thanks!

A bit over budget but these laptops should be sufficient:
SAMSUNG Series 3 NP355V5C-S01US: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131393
lenovo G780 : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312431

The samsung uses A-10+7670M
The lenovo uses core i5+GT635M

the lenovo is better for gaming IMO because it has a 17.3" HD+ display (which also makes it bigger and heavier) and the more powerful (at least for normal computing) i5 3230M. Also the lenovo has the more faster gt635m than the 7670m in the samsung (don't know the xfire performance in the samsung though). there is a post in the 'official laptop review' thread that shows the performance of the a-10 and 7670m in action (different laptop from the samsung, but just scroll down to see the review)

So the AMD one has the 7660 plus extra graphics? Sweet.. so you think either of these will be able to run those games I mentioned on medium to high? And you think th levono is better? I don't think it has the dual graphics though like the samsung... or does it not matter? Thanks btw this is awesome! Also if you look there is a 700$ acer that has the i5 but it comes with a 4gb nvidia 730m GPU.. I'm guessing thats even better? If I can muster up a hundred more dollars which one out of these 3 would you chose? And there is actually a 730m 2GB GPU acer thats 629$ but it only has 4gb of ram and is only 15.6".. So I guess out of these 4 what would you chose? Sorry lol i'm just exicted i've been waiting a long time to have a semi decent gaming PC

now that you mentioned it, the $700 Acer w/ GT 730M is a very good laptop. The 7660G+HD7670M is inferior to a single GT 730M in some cases. You can forget the lenovo now. But I was strolling around when I spot these two, they're equipped with core i7 and GT640M (about the same as the 730M), one has a bigger screen than the other:

Just remember that either xfire or SLI have their problems. Thats why a single card is always my first choice.

You sure the i7 would be better than the i5's I know they're quad cores compared to dual cores but the i7 is only 2.2ghz while the i5 is 2.6ghz... sorry i'm not very good at this lol

Clockspeed isn't the only factor that determines whether one CPU is better than the other. The number of cores, threads, cache, etc also counts. And in this case, well you can see that the i7 has a lower clock speed but has:
1. More cores (4 vs 2)
2. more threads (8 vs 4)
3. more L3 cache (6mb vs 3mb)
4. also the i7 has a higher passmark score than the i5

So, conclusion is, go for the i7. But, in the end you decide, just remember to decide fast before the price goes up again.
