A6-5400k and R7 260x! how to stop BOTTLENECK ?

Hello guys!

I had a6-5400k (igp only) using for gaming but that was not enough for me because I want to max out the game settings and turn up the resolution for better gaming experience.

So my friend suggested me to add a discrete GPU which he recommended me a Sapphire R7 260X 2gb, someone told me that it would create a bottleneck/throttling because my CPU isnt that powerful enough to support this GPU.

But my friend stated that "Yes, It could create a bottleneck but if you want to boost up your FPS , that card would help but you would experience stuttering in some games "

So finally , i bought it.

and I tried it to some games,, DOTA2 (no stuttering! @720p all max settings) 30-60fps
not bad!

but in some games like TOMB RAIDER and SAINTS ROW IV , even at medium settings, there's a terrible stuttering.

So how could i stop this throttling?
Would Overclocking this CPU will stop this bottleneck?
or if not , I could upgrade my whole system into new to gain more FPS for better gaming experience

BTW the only FM2 disabled cpu available here is ATHLON X4 740!
is that a good upgrade? or i should go to INTEL PLATFORM (G3258)?

please suggest me the best way that doesn't much hurt my pocket

the athlon x4 would be a decent upgrade. before you order it, try to decrease or increase detail levels on the games that stutter. if it gets better in lower details it's not the cpu causing the bottleneck. if it's the same it's a cpu bottleneck indeed.

As an owner of a an A6 5400k i can tell you that no amount of overclocking will make this cpu viable at high details in modern games. This CPU has essentially a single AMD module that shares too much resources between the two weak cores, so its not even a true dual core...

If the only FM2 cpu (igp disabled) you can buy with 4 cores is the 740 then go for it! It has two modules and is much better for gaming. The better choice would be the 750/760k - as you can overclock them gaining much higher frequencies.

So yes - in your case the upgrade to an fm2 quad is worth it. Going intel would require e new motherboard that can be used for non-z overclocking and those might not be as easy to find. Without an OC the 3258 greatly loses its value.

The athlon x4 is very rare here in my country, So I'm thinking to get a funds for A8-6600k or A10 series

is A8-6600k powerful than Athlon X4?
because I will get it if that's more powerful . it's only sub ~100 bucks

The A8 is more powerful because it is overclockable, the x4 740 is not. The only difference between A8 and A10 is the integrated graphics, and because you have a 260x this doesn't matter to you. Just be sure to get an A8 or A10 with a 'k' on the end!

I'm a developer too and I'm struggling in ANDROID STUDIO

It will help with the bottlenecking for sure, it will boost your systems performance with heavier apps, and you're right A55 motherboards are not great for overclocking, so get whichever CPU has the highest clock speed / turbo speed 😀

I'm also looking for upgrade path in near future

Because i have couple options to do:

Option 1: Sell my A6-5400k along with my MOTHERBOARD and BUY Intel G3258 & LGA1150 MOTHERBOARD (great future upgrade path )

Option 2: Buy A8 or Athlon X4 740 and add some rams

What would be the best choice for me?
All i need is for mild gaming and HEAVY APPS

my budget for now is very restricted

It is true that your upgrade path is very limited on FM2, and you have much better upgrade options if you switch to intel. I will warn you though, the g3258 is known to have issues with microstutter - there's a video online somewhere of it stuttering on tomb raider. It's not game breaking, but it's there.

What's your thought? Could you give me some insight (I just wanna make sure that i wont throw my money)

All I need is to get the full performance with my R7 260x.

Any of the CPUs you listed would work fine with the r7 260x. I think the A8-6600k would be the best buy at this stage as you already have an FM2 motherboard, so it's fairly easy to just upgrade the CPU.
