The A7A266 board specs can be found at the following link:http:// http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/doc/a12205.html

The A7V133 board specs can be found here:

I know that the A7A266 takes DDR RAM, and that the A7V133 uses PC133 RAM. I don't know much else about these boards. My concerns are compatability with AGP vid cards such as Geforce 2 MMX or any type of sound card. Are there any known issues with these cards?

My basic needs are a fast gaming machine. Thus, I will put in up to 512 RAM, and a T-Bird 1400. Would it be necessary to add more fans even without overclocking?

The ALi chipset of the A7A266 has better compatablity than ANY VIA equiped motherboard (including the A7V133). It also accepts EITHER PC133 or PC2100 depending on which banks you use.

The a7a does has issues with some GF 3 and GF 2 cards. Especially with win 2k. I have seen posts on other boards about both. Also this board can really hate a SB live card. Especially with older drivers. If you run win 98 or ME the SB live work best in slot 3 and manually assign an IRQ of 5. Don't get me wrong I have this board and really love it but there are some issues to getting it set up and running. I have never run the A7V so I can't compare.

In my book the A7V133 should hate a SB Live! card more than any mobo lacking the Via 686B Southbridge, such as found on the A7V133.

if youre getting an 1400 MHz Athlon and 512 MB of RAM then you should absolutely get DDR. Also you shouldn´t team up that monster CPU with a Geforce2 MX. Many people would class it as the 11:th deadly sin when it comes to hardware...:) That is if your machine is to be used for gaming of course.

I say A7A, and I´ve also heard good things about the Iwill KA266, which is based on the same chipset as the A7A.

I don't know what that previous post was talking about. I have an A7A and it works great with my GF3 and SB Value. I haven't had any compatibility problems, other than I had to go up to Win2k, which I would advise anyway. Win98 is a piece of junk compared to 2000.

ive got a a7v133, SB live and a leadtek winfast geforce2pro.

no issues with those three devices,
but i did have the missfortune to install some crap via 4in1's. (avoid the 4.28's)

and win2k is touchy on the issue of detonator drivers. but thats unrelated to the mobo (i.e. i had similar probs on my old p2-300 + win2k)
