I have been trying to contact ASUS on this but they won't asnwer back! Does anybody know if the Athlon 1.4Ghz with 266Mhz FSB can run on an ASUS A7M266? The ASUS web sites are unclear on this. Some say the motherboard will run 1GHz+ Athlons, some say only up to 1.2GHz. I searched through the forum for old posts on the subject with no success... Is anybody already using this combination reliably? Is a BIOS update required?

Thank you!

Well Asus says on their homepage:
"Supports Socket A (462) AMD Althlon/Duron processors up to 1.4GHz+... The A7V266 incorporates the VIA KT266 chipset to support AMD Athlon/Duron processors up to 1.4GHz and beyond."
I believe thats trustworthy.

it should show 1.4 just fine. That board has multiplier up to 12.5 I believe and 1.4 on that board is 133 x 10.5 so I think it ships with 1.4 support. I used to have that motherboard but with a 1.33 chip and it was a very nice board if you didn't want to overclock.

Thanks, people! It seems I'll grab one. And, no, I don't
need it for overclocking. ASUS also replied me:
"Yes, it can, and you'd better update the BIOS to the latest version". I love the "you'd better" bit!
