I have been trying to reinstall my system onto my SATA hard disk but to no avail. XP MCE 2005 insists that I have a floppy disk containing these special drivers which I am supposed to insert at the beginning of installation to make it aware that an SATA controller exists and so I can install Windows on the SATA drive.

I can't seem to find the original SATA driver disk that came with the motherboard so I have had to make my own by copying the SATA drivers and other files from the motherboard CD-ROM (I went into Drivers\SATA and then copied and pasted whatever would fit on a floppy from there).

I followed the instructions, put the floppy disk in and then booted off the Windows XP MCE 2005 CD 1. It ran through the usual procedure of setting up files and I pressed F6 when prompted to install a third party RAID/SCSI driver. After the whole initialization, the installer told me that it was unable to identify the third party controller and I was given the option to press S to specify the controller. I did that, it checked the floppy disk and gave me two options. Silicon Image SATA driver etc etc for Windows XP/2003 and for Windows NT4/2000. Both options just made the installer throw up the error message:

File si3112r.sys caused an unexpected error at line 2113 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c

Press any key to continue.

Any idea what has gone wrong and how I can go about fixing it? I really need to start installing this computer before my uni course begins!!

Be sure your floppy drive is installed correctly. Also, you might change the Floppy cable. If you have a different floppy drive give it a try.

I will try your suggestion but I have managed to create this disk without any problems using this exact same floppy drive. It works in windows and I have managed to read and write other floppy disks without any problems. Also I can hear the floppy disk drive being accessed while I perform the above instructions.

You might try creating a floppy SATA driver disk using these steps:

Open the support cd on another machine. Double click "My Computer" and open the CD folders. Open the Drivers folder, then Sata and copy everything from the Sata folder to a floppy except the GUI and the Readme file.

Visit Asus' website and download the SATA/RAID driver.
They also have a really cool Q&A forum (under your motherboard model) on their site that should answer your question.

I have a similar problem when I installed a new SATA drive on my A7N8X-E Deluxe

Already tried that but to no avail - perhaps I got lost amongst their site.

If somebody could please provide me a link that would be awesome!
