You should consider getting BIOS rev. 1005a if you do not already have it.

For my system and testing it appears a little more stable at higher FSBs (raised my stable FSB by around 5Mhz so far).

I will keep fiddling - as always. It does not appear to have increased the user configurable multiplier higher than 12.5, but it has (no idea why) enabled FSBs up to 200Mhz!!!!!

I'll keep reporting back on observations but it seems a steady increase, if not monumental release...

cheers, i got that bios a few days ago when trying to sort out some other problems. now that i have the other problems sorted out i can get the most from my set up.

out of ideas, back soon !

scary huh - why would anyone need 200FSB - unless there is something we don't know yet????

I have been using it for a few days and was looking today.Did the 1004 have the CPU fan features or is this new
in 1005. Was just wondering because if it is new then it could be a spot to cause trouble if no CPU fan sisnal is detected, if I am looking at the settings properly.Just a thought.

Rock out with your AMD out

I noticed a couple of features in advanced chipset setup. Don't know what they are used for. Also a rather dumb question: what does throttling the cpu mean? (I think it's a new feature?)

didn't see anything new in chipset, but throttling means the board will support Athlon4 power management (which I don't think is required from AMD for desktop CPUs.)

Basically it is the same concept as the Intel P4 - I think. If the chip is getting too hot, rather than sutdown it only works 50% of the time. Actually quite smart. There is also an option to shutdown too.

I can only assume we have to wait for destop palomino to see this in action , but presumably if someone got a mobile Athlon4 it will do the same thing...

Ahh, so if it overheats, it automatically reduces the clock speed?

Thanks for the explanation :)

That's not a very good idea if you have the heatsink off. If it gets hot it will underclock it, but it still would overheat with the heatsink off even when underclocked. Unless they have it so it completely shuts off if it stays critial temp for a little while longer......

I don't think a MB sensor to shutdown the CPUP would work. A new Athlon would still fry before BIOS loaded.... The Intel works 'cos it is on the chip itself.

It can only help for steady gains (hot room, failed fan, poor cooler) etc.
