A8V Deluxe Compatibility Problem with Samsung SH-S183L DVD Burner

There is a compatibility problem between the ASUS A8V Deluxe's VIA SATA controller and Samsung SATA burners(i.e SH-S183L). You cannot do a firmware update. I would like to know if anyone else has any SATA burner connected to this MB, and if so, what is the Model of the burner and have you had any problems (i.e. updating firmware).

What error do you get?

I know the K8V for socket 754 had some via sata issues related to skipping music with a slight system pause. back flashing a few bios rev's fixed that.

May be a good place to start.

I attempted to use Samsung's "Firmware Live Update" and even though it tells me that the SB02 update is available for the drive, after it runs I get the error message "The firmware is not compatible with the drive". When I run Samsung's "WININQUIRY" program, it says my firmware is SB01 and my OEM Code is "1". I tried to install "Magic Speed" but I get the error message "We cannot find Magic Speed Drive". Samsung Technicians had no answer to the problem.
