hi everyone, I am needing to know, I am currently using this motherboard https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty%20AB350%20Gaming%20K4/index.asp paired with a ryzen 5 1600 cpu. I just bought a ryzen 5 2600 cpu cause it was dirt cheap. now my motherboard bios is version 4.90 which should work with the 2600. should I update to the latest bios or keep it where its at? ive always been scared to update the bios. or should I even upgrade to the 2600 from the 1600? I figured I can get a little faster clock speeds on both the ram and cpu. also my 1600 right now is overclocked to 4ghz 1.38 volts stable but the ram is at 2800 MHz that's max, and the ram is rated at 3000 mhz. but im using a 4x8 config. here is the ram im using http://www.xpg.com/en/feature/482

Solution
If you're changing cpu, upgrade bios and set everything back to stock. If you plug in the 2600 without clearing bios, if it tries to overclock the 2600 and the 2600 can't do it for some reason, you could have a lot of fun.

If you're at 4ghz on the 2600, I don't know that you'll see much of any difference. At stock for stock, maybe a few % points. A friend of mine updated to a stock 2700x from a stock 1700x, and he saw a slight bump. So I think you'll see a difference, but I don't know that you'll see earth shattering differences.

Honestly, ryzen 3000 series is supposed to drop next year. From rumors I'm seeing, the new ryzen 3 will 6 core 12 threads like there 2600/1600. Supposedly ryzen 5 will be 8 core 16 threads, and...

Honestly, since you aren't getting much performance bump if any since you have a nice overclock, you could sell the 2600 and save your cash for ryzen 3000 series. Or install the 2600, still your 1600, then save that money, and see what they come up with next year.

so I should update to the latest bios with the 1600 installed? then swap to the 2600 after the update?
