ABIT AX78 suitable processor..help!!

hello, im using ABIT AX78 motherboard with AM2+ socket..
on it is amd athlon 64 X2 4800+...
i really want to change the processor to a powerful one, but all new processor come AM3 socket..
some people said that AM2+ socket can be put AM3 processor, but im not quite sure...

can really a AM2+ socket accept AM3 processor??can my motherboard accept it??
is someone real experience put AM3 processor on this particular motherboard??

ive check, so it says, phenom 9950 is the best that can fit.so that its??

I have the same motherboard and I think I'll go with the AMD Phenom II X4 B55. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and it can't fit the motherboard.
