Hey guys, so lets say I purchased a gtx 1080, brand new and sealed and I don't open it for another 2-3 weeks when my rig arrives, and then unpack it and it has some problems, is that covered in warranty?

Well, a warranty would be useless if it was voided when the product was opened.

A warranty is, most of the time, valid from the manufactured date or date of purchase - not when it is opened. So you can buy it and not open it for 6 months and the warranty would still be valid.

If you wait 2-3 weeks, though, what you might lose out on is the ability to send it back to the retailer if it's broken.

well the retailer is on amazon and that would be a hassle, I'd rather just send it back to the manufacturer.

No, the warranty most likely would have started when you purchased it, or if the seller you purchased it from is a reseller, when he/she purchased it. If it is a reseller as opposed to an actual retailer, you may not even have a warranty.

Have you registered the card?

nah man, how do I do that?

What card is it?

I just bought it off amazon bro.

EVGA GTX 1080 SC

Sometimes, it just depends. For instance, if I bought a video card and resold it to you through Amazon or eBay, you most likely wouldn't have a warranty because most manufacturer warranties are non-transferable and you wouldn't have the original invoice, I'm not sure if EVGA's warranties are transferable.

If you use the invoice that you got from the Amazon seller and manage to register the card with EVGA, then you can be certain that you have got a warranty.

I guess this will apply to me... lol

Transferable Warranty (Secondary Owner)
EVGA offers a transferable warranty for products shipped new from EVGA on or after July 1, 2011 so long as the product is in its original factory condition and retains all of the factory labels and stickers. The transferred warranty will not exceed 3 years from the products shipping date from EVGA and will also not exceed the original warranty offered on the product.

3 Year Suffixes: -A1, -A2, -A3, -A4, -AR, -AX, -CR, -CX, -DX, -FR, -FX, -SG, -SX, -KR, -K1, -K2, -K3, -KB, -KA, -KF, -KM
2 Year Suffixes : -LA, -LE, -LR, -LX, -T1, -T2, -TR, -TX
Transferable Warranty Exceptions

Non-transferable Suffixes: -B1, -BR, -BX, -DR, -RX, -RB
Products shipped from EVGA as warranty replacements will be subject to this warranty so long as the original product was shipped from EVGA on or after July 1, 2011.
Products sent as demo unit or given away as prize do not transfer warranty.

You may not even be the second owner too, you may have purchased from a third party reseller, in which case you would be the second owner, or you might have purchased from a third party retailer on Amazon, in which case you would be the original owner.

What would your advice be, just cancel it and just wait until an authorized reseller has it in stock? Because these guys

https://www.amazon.ca/s?marketplaceID=A2EUQ1WTGCTBG2&me=A2VL5RBPILDDYD&merchant=A2VL5RBPILDDYD&redirect=true

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aag/main/ref=olp_merch_name_1?ie=UTF8&asin=B01GAI6478&isAmazonFulfilled=0&seller=A3VTKZ4QKCY18C

have no idea if they are authorized or not.

one is selling for 1060 with 25 dollar tax, other one for 1140 tax included and 5 dollar shipping

Canadian dollars not American. NCIX and other resellers have them on backorder for 889 dollars excludeding tax with tax it's about 1010ish so these resellers are gouging roughly 100 dollars more it seems.
